Analysis of bearing capacity of insulating glass

The strength of insulating glass is the main factor affecting the bearing capacity of insulating glass. Stiffness of insulating glass and sealing performance of insulating glass hollow layer.

1. Strength and stiffness of insulating glass

The strength of insulating glass refers to the ability of insulating glass to resist external load, and the stiffness refers to the ability of insulating glass to bear deformation. Obviously, after the glass material is given, such as ordinary plate glass or toughened glass, the breaking strength of the original glass piece is determined according to the theory of glass strength design. Therefore, to improve the carrying capacity of insulating glass, it is necessary to reduce the bending and tensile stress on the glass surface under the same load, which is related to the size of the original insulating glass pieces (length, width, aspect ratio and thickness of each original piece) and the thickness of the hollow layer. The load directly assigned to each piece of glass under the action of external load determines the carrying capacity of insulating glass.

2. Load bearing characteristics of insulating glass under failure condition of hollow layer

In the case of hollow layer gas seal, the gas transfer action can transfer part of the external load to another piece of glass. However, when the gas layer leaks, the gas in the hollow layer completely loses the function of transferring load. At this time, the load borne by the insulating glass is completely borne by the directly stressed piece of glass. Obviously, at this time, the load bearing capacity of insulating glass will decrease significantly.

3. Influence of ambient temperature and pressure difference on the bearing capacity of insulating glass

Even if it is not subjected to external load, due to the difference between the regional environment of production and use of insulating glass, it will also lead to the expansion or contraction of the gas in the hollow layer of insulating glass, which directly leads to the deformation and additional stress of the two original glass pieces. In serious cases, the two pieces of glass will bump against each other, and even lead to the breakage of the glass.

To sum up, the bearing capacity of insulating glass depends on the strength and stiffness of the glass plate and the tightness of the hollow layer. Under uniform load, the forces on the outside and inside sides of insulating glass are different. When the side length of the insulating glass is more than 150 times of the thickness, the force on both sides of the glass tends to be close. After the failure of the gas leakage in the hollow layer, the bearing deformation property of the insulating glass changes obviously by applying concentrated load to the insulating glass. Measuring the deflection of the inner and outer plates or the change of the thickness of the hollow layer can identify whether the middle air layer is well sealed. The test and field detection results show that this method and detection device can conveniently, quickly and reliably detect the sealing performance of the hollow glass.
